Two Days, Three Perspectives

Every year, DTW Ignite brings together the key players driving the telecommunications industry forward, both technically and strategically. This year, Deutsche Telekom was represented by the MagentaBusiness API team in three different roles: as a Moonshot Judge evaluating the TM Forum Catalyst projects, in an interview with Sean Kinney on the topic of trust in AI scaling, and on the panel discussing the future of API monetization.

The Jury’s Perspective: What Strong Projects Have in Common

Evaluating the submitted Moonshot projects before and during the event in Copenhagen provided direct insight into the direction in which the industry is heading. The most striking observation: The most compelling projects didn’t ask, “How do we solve this for our company?” but rather, “How do we solve challenges for businesses and society, and how do we scale this across an entire industry?”

The strongest teams thought beyond individual organizations. They combined technology, collaboration, and a long-term perspective to tackle problems that no single company can solve on its own, creating value for both businesses and society. This pattern ran through the majority of the evaluated projects and was shared and discussed by the international jury, which included Dr. Chathurangi Wickramasinghe from the MagentaBusiness API team.

The Trade Press Perspective: Trust as a Scaling Factor

In an interview conducted by Sean Kinney of the trade journal RCS Tech with Chathurangi Wickramasinghe, the focus was on what will shape the next phase of AI adoption—namely, building trust on a large scale.

The central thesis is that as AI becomes increasingly embedded in business processes and society, trust will become the decisive differentiator. The key point of the discussion: The race for AI will not be decided by intelligence alone, but by trust—because AI can only scale on a trustworthy foundation built on verified identities, reliable data, and secure digital interactions.

The Panel Discussion: API Monetization with Measurable Results

The same fundamental message also shaped the panel discussion on the future of API monetization: Innovation only creates value if it leads to measurable business results. The most sustainable approaches are those designed for an entire industry—not for a single company.

The panel participants were Rajagopalan Rajappa, CTO, Communications Tech & Platforms, Tata Elxsi; Dr. Chathurangi Wickramasinghe, SVP Magenta API Exposure, Deutsche Telekom; Peter Arbitter, CCO, Aduna Global; and Henry Calvert, Head of Networks, GSMA.
